Cyberfolk Friendly Guided Web Site Tours

Titanic Leads Oscar Hopefuls for 1998

I love the movies! There's nothing better than spending time in that darkened theater with the wide screen and surround sound. That is the only way to see a film, in my opinion. In that vein, here are the Oscar nominated films and some Titanic sites that give more background on epic tragedy.

Titanic

This site is extensive. You can spend hours here. I know, I have. The behind-the-scenes stuff is insightful and I love the information on the Deep Dive. The screen savers are cool, too. James Cameron has outdone himself. What I'm waiting for is the Director's Cut video with the 45 minutes he cut out added back in. Are you listening, James? This movie garnered 14 nominations, tied with the 1950 movie All About Eve. I do think that Leonardo DiCapro got gypped.

The Full Monty

This is a thoroughly charming movie. I enjoyed every minute of it. If you enjoy British humor, then you'll like this as much as I did. The site has just as much irreverence as the movie. I enjoyed taking the quiz; luckily I scored well on it. I qualified as a local. This movie gathered four nominations.

Good Will Hunting

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote this screenplay while they were looking for work as actors. It was an effort that spanned years. Not bad for a first effort. We should all do so well. The site isn't extensive, only a couple of pages. There are a few downloads of video clips though. This movie compiled nine nominations, tied with our next site, L.A. Confidential.

L.A. Confidential

The subject matter of the movie was mature, the site is adult-themed, but I did not come across any bad language. The site is extensive, and you can spend quite a while here. Although this movie received nine nominations, personally I can't see the one for Best Picture. Maybe that's why I'm not member of the Academy. Overall though, it's an interesting site with lots of different paths to go down.

As Good As It Gets

This site is as delightful as the movie. It's multi-layered and very cute. I love the game and liked the trailers. Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt are great. I can see why it received 7 nominations, although I'm still not sure of Greg Kinnear's nomination. Sorry Greg, but that's the way I call it.

Oscar.com

For more information on the Oscars and all the nominations you can visit the official web site and see the nominations either by category or by movie, which is the way I like to see it.

Here are some of the other Titanic sites:

The RMS Titanic by Ian Carter

Be patient, this site take a little bit to load. This site has the complete passenger list and who was in each lifeboat, etc. It's very extensive and has it's own set of links.

The R.M.S. Titanic

Another extensive site that you can spend quite awhile in, I did. This has a lot of text with a few pictures. I like sites like this though. I think you'll like this one as much as I do.

Banished Titan

The author of this site, Alex Wolff, studies the Titanic from a different light, using logic, fact and an open mind. This site take a long time to load, but has nice pictures. It is also part of a Titanic Web Ring, so there are plenty of places to go from there.

Titanic—A voyage of Discovery

This site loads slow and is graphics intensive. The highlight of this site is a virtual tour of the Titanic. Very COOL, does require JAVA. This is another site that has tons of information. You can spend a week here with no problem at all.
