Gourmet Delights

I am a writer and educator by training, but I was born a "foodie"-- I love to cook and try all kinds of new methods and ethnic traditions. I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for six years, where I got very spoiled, because I could find ANYTHING at all-- all the herbs you can imagine, any sauce or flavoring and nifty cooking gadgets. But, alas, I moved to a very small town in Texas, so now I use the Web to find things.

San Francisco Herb and Natural Food Site

The herbs and natural foods are organized by types, such as "botanicals" or "culinary herbs" . I dare you to think of something that is NOT on this site. The list of products is organized in a grid, so that you can clearly see the price per pound. Be sure to start at the beginning, because that’s where they tell how to order-- it took me a while to figure it out. Check out the whole "Vita-Buy" site for some fun shopping.

Smith and Hawken

This is my favorite gardening store, and so of course, it is also my favorite gardening site. Its a feast for the eyes, along with a lot of information.

McCormick Spice

This page has an encyclopdeia approach, where you can look up each spice, find information about using it storing it its complements, etc. You can also search their "recipe box", for highly technical recipes like cardamom coffee. (guess what the ingredients are) All joking aside, it is a very nice site.

Cooking at the Academy Recipes

This is a page devoted to the public television series by the same title. The show is about the California Culinary Academy, and is on KQED, in San Francisco. I like it because they have sample recipes, but it also has a schedule of programs, if you miss one I guess.

Veggie Life Magazine Veggie Village

Since this is currently my favorite print magazine, I had to check out their site. Some of the GREAT articles from the magazine are up on this page, so keep it in your bookmarks for the best in green journalism.
