Diet Support on the Web
Host
Pat Veretto
More than anything else, the subject of dieting is prone to all sorts of
quackery and self-promotion. Everything from the grapefruit diet to
miracle herbs has been touted to (almost) instantly and easily "melt
away pounds'."
The fact is, and we all know it, that the only way to lose weight is to
eat fewer calories than we burn, or burn more calories than we eat.
Easy to say, hard to do.
It's a little easier though, when you know you are not alone.
Following are some of the most helpful and supportive sites on the web
for dieters.
285 Should Be A Car Payment Not A Weight!
The journal begins...
"Today is December 28, 1997. I weigh 285 pounds and have strep throat."
Named "Kindafunny," this site helps you keep your perspective about
dieting. Its off the wall humor and overall good natured attitude about
dieting will give you a lift. Humor is the frosting on the cake though,
and as you explore the site, you will find serious and sincere help.
TK's Insights--Personal Excellence, Fitness and Weightloss
There are lots of good ideas for weight loss and control at this site.
Two forums, "Positive Thoughts For Positive People Forum" and "Weight
Loss Forum'" allow interaction with others. He claims to have lost 170
pounds and has such entries on one list as 'What It's Like to be 400
pounds' and 'Ya Gotta Wanna!!'
Diettalk
A very interesting and interactive site with a live chat that's busy most
of the time. You can find support here almost all of the time. Diettalk
also has a bulletin board if live chat frightens you. This site appears to be
run by a good group of people.
Barbara's Obesity Meds and Research News
'A Patient's Page,' this site is very thorough in keeping up on the
various medications and news concerning weight loss and gain. No
grapefruit diets here, but plenty of serious information concerning
your health as you diet. Barbara sells a newsletter, but there is so much
information, that you can spend a lot of time at the site regardless of
whether you subscribe.
The Woman Who was too Big for God
This is a short fantasy that will lift your spirits and remind you that
there is room in this world for every one. It's part of another site
(www.sizewise.com) with the same sort of encouragement that tell us we
are still worthwhile human beings. The need to diet often makes us feel
less than at ease with ourselves, and this site helps us to find freedom
from that.
The Net Loss Club! Weight-Loss/Diet Support Group
Support with a capital "S," this group started by accident and now
boasts nearly 400 members. There is a lot of inspiration as they help
each other reach their goals. They gladly extend an invitation to join.
Many of us at one time or another need to or would like to lose a few
(or not so few) pounds. It's not always easy, though, to find the
support we need to stick with the diets and lifestyle changes. Talking
with others, listening to success stories and interacting with those
who understand helps tremendously with our resolve.
