Mothers Unite, Gain Support, Information and Networking on the Web
by Maggie Heeger

Perhaps one of the biggest complaints about motherhood -- especially stay-at-home motherhood--is the isolation women feel from the rest of society. The Internet changes all that. Moms of every persuasion can join in discussions, browse through recipes, or learn late-breaking consumer information...all from the comfort of home.

Parents at Home covers most of the bases of parenthood: health, money, support, information and more. Connect with other parents, learn about new research, and gain insights on a myriad of parenting topics. Moms can gain organization and motivation tips from the Slob Sisters Official Online Site.

Children's health, one of the most important issues mothers deal with, is covered on the Web. Hot Health Topics and The American Academy of Pediatrics Homepage discusses immunizations, fevers, cuts and bruises and the many other concerns parents have about keeping their children healthy. La Leche League International offers breastfeeding information. Baby Web features options when considering childbirth. Parent's Place is a comprehensive site that offers articles by experts, bulletin boards to post and reply to questions, chat forums for meeting other mothers, and book review sites.

And if you're going out to eat, The Fast Food Facts site names names and gives nutrient counts for all the fast food restaurants. As the kids get older, moms are called upon to help with school work. Moms need to be well-informed in order to support their families. The Consumer Information Center has an extensive listing of brochures you can download instead of ordering by mail. The Better Business Bureau advises consumers on scams, wise choices and questions to ask before buying just about anything.
